Nowadays there are cumulatively over 27 000 homeless animals inhabiting the Polish-Ukrainian border area comprising Lviv, Lutsk, Ivano-Frankivsk in Ukraine and Lublin in Poland. Inhumane and inefficient methods for regulating the number of such animals in the cities along with insufficient awareness of such problems call for a set of solutions, introduced by the project.

The overall objective of the project is to increase the level of safety of the Polish-Ukrainian borderland residents including the towns of Lviv, Lublin, Lutsk and Ivano-Frankivsk by way of regulating the number of homeless animals, raising the competence level of veterinary doctors and local residents’ awareness level, creating a veterinary-sterilization center, deepening of cooperation among local authorities, etc.

The project therefore envisions the creation of a veterinary centre in Lviv, Ukraine, conducting four conferences on the management and treatment of homeless animals and a joint seminar attended by specialists from Poland and Ukraine, introduction of an electronic program for counting and registration of homeless animals, the purchase of supplies for the animal shelters in Lviv, Lublin, Lutsk and Ivano-Frankivsk.
