Measure2.2. Efficient and secure borders

Project ref. numberPBU/LSP/09/002

Overall objective protect the political and economic interests of Poland and the European Union Specific objective (direct and immediate effects): improve the effectiveness of the border infrastructure and procedures and increase the security at the Polowce-Pieszczatka border crossing by extending the crossing point. Extension of the infrastructure of the Polowce-Pieszczatka border crossing will increase the security of the state border, reduce illegal cross-border migration and activate business entities near the border crossing, leading an increase in the employment within the region and better living conditions for the local population. At the same time, the upgrade and extension of access roads to the border crossing will reduce the risk of collisions and accidents. International road transport among Poland-Belarus-Russia will be improved.

The border crossing capacity will be increased. Currently only 500 passenger cars can enter the crossing in both directions per day. The extended crossing would enable 2 000 passenger cars per day in both directions and would introduce admission of trucks (200 trucks up to 7,5 t in both directions per day) and 50 coaches per day in both directions. The investment include construction of the main building, buildings for detailed inspection, pavilions for passenger car clearance, a guard's pavilion and shelters.
